My Commitment

I am not one to faithfully write in a journal or a diary. However, it has been brought to my attention by many, including myself, that it would be important to document things that occur in my life. So, here I am - with the utmost intention to build the habit of expressing myself on a continual basis.

First topic: My Commitment.
I am about to embark on an incredible spiritual journey. October 3rd, 2010, I will be commissioned as a Way Disciple in our ministry's Disciple of the Way Outreach Program. What is this, you ask? Let me tell you the physical details:

For 6 months I will move to a location in the United States that I will not know of until 3 days before I am to move there. I will be taking with me 2 large suitcases that will hold enough of my essentials for two weeks. I will have boxes of clothes and things packed back home, ready to be shipped to my new area.
I will be going to this new place (that could be anywhere in the US!) with people I have never met (and possibly..believingly.. some that I have!) We will travel together, live together, find housing together, find jobs together, do everything together (except using the restroom.)

Perhaps this brings me to the spiritual details:

When I say spiritual details I refer to our general purpose, my specific purpose, and the actions we will take to fulfill these purposes.
For these 6 months it will be our commitment to speak the true accuracy of God's Word, the Scriptures, to those who are hungering and thirsting to know Him. We will live our lives manifesting God's love and power to make the truth of His Word available to those who want to know. As sons of God (in general) we have been given the ministry of reconciliation, as well as the word of reconciliation, which is meant to reconcile men and women back to God, our heavenly Father. To reconcile, as defined by Webster's dictionary is to restore to friendship or harmony. We have been given the privilege and responsibility to speak God's Word to people so that they may be restored to that relationship with God. This is what we will be fully committed to accomplish in our 6 months together - reconciling men and women to God.

We will believe to accomplish this by believing God to be at the right place at the right time. We will take aggressive action by placing ourselves in the community - meeting people and speaking the great truths of the Word in our daily lives with all we come in contact with. We will make our lives available to those who desire to know more - by teaching the truth of the Word, by helping and supporting others who are learning to live the Word in their own lives, by manifesting God's great delivering power. Our believing action will have an incredible godly impact - it will bless our own lives as well as others.

This brings me to my own goals in making this commitment. Simply put - I have a desire to grow spiritually. This program will require a lot of myself. I will be challenged to grow in areas that I may be weak in now. The program itself is very structured - there are guidelines that have been set in place and proven to be for the greatest benefit to those of us participating. For example: we are to study the scriptures for an hour each day - because we cannot give what we do not have. To speak the Word on a daily basis, as much as we will be doing, will require a daily diet of the truth put on in our minds. (Though such a habit is desired of everyone.) We will be doing specific, focused activities geared towards meeting people and speaking to them. You may not know me, but I am not the most outgoing person you may know! But I look forward to getting outside of my own comfort zone, meeting and speaking to new people and being able to share the greatness of God's Word - there is nothing that brings more joy to me than that.

It is my own personal goal, in doing this, that I may become more faithful to study God's Word - studying so that I may understand it and apply it to a greater degree in my life. I want to live the truths of God's Word to the extent that it is second nature! I want to continue to build my confidence in myself and my God who will meet every need. And I want to be able to share this with every one I come in contact with.

1 Timothy 4:16 (Amplified)
Look well to yourself [to your own personality] and to [your] teaching; persevere in these things [hold to them], for by so doing you will save both yourself and those who hear you.

Could that sum it up any greater? This will be, by far, the best 6 months of my life up to this point.
